Our Tour

Immerse yourself in one of Costa Rica's most impressive marine destinations

Experience an extraordinary underwater adventure at the Caño Island Biological Reserve, one of the top diving destinations in Costa Rica's South Pacific. Surrounded by tropical waters and volcanic rock formations, Caño Island hosts an amazing diversity of reef fish, sea turtles, rays, sharks, and other species that make every dive a unique experience.

The tour departs early from Bahía Ballena, Uvita, combining a scenic boat ride along Costa Ballena with two guided dives, small groups, and professional service to ensure a safe, intimate, and memorable journey.

The Experience

The adventure begins early in the morning, departing from the Marino Ballena National Park area in Uvita. During the boat ride to Caño Island, you can take in the stunning scenery of Costa Ballena, where forest-covered mountains meet the Pacific Ocean. Along the way, there is also a chance to spot sea turtles and dolphins. Boat transit takes approximately 1 hour to 1.5 hours, depending on sea and weather conditions. Upon arrival at the reserve, our team will provide a detailed briefing on site conditions, safety protocols, and planned activities for the day.

Next, you will perform two dives at different sites. Locations are selected based on water conditions, participant experience levels, and our professional team's recommendations. Drinks and snacks will be served on board between dives. Following the second dive, you will enjoy lunch before heading back to Bahía Ballena.

Marine Life You May Encounter
The abundance and diversity of marine life surrounding Caño Island make this destination one of the most exciting dive spots in Costa Rica. During your dives, you may spot: White-tip reef sharks, Sea turtles, Manta rays and mobulas, Stingrays, Seahorses, Barracudas, Large schools of tropical fish, Moray eels, Reef fish, Sponges, mollusks, and other marine organisms. (From the boat, it is also possible to spot dolphins and turtles. Wildlife sightings depend on natural ocean conditions and cannot be guaranteed.)

Dive Sites at Caño Island

The reserve features several dive sites, each with unique characteristics, depths, and underwater formations. Popular sites include:

  • Bajo del Diablo

  • El Barco

  • El Ancla

  • La Cueva

  • Sites along the northern sector of Caño Island

The areas near the island consist of volcanic rocky and sandy bottoms, coral formations, and sheltered zones that serve as feeding grounds for numerous marine species. Site selection takes place on the day of the tour based on currents, visibility, swell, and group experience. When conditions permit and participants possess the required certification and experience, it is possible to visit offshore points such as the famous Bajo del Diablo. Visits to this site are reserved for advanced divers.
